Founded in 1970, WBHO is one of South Africa’s largest construction companies and it has been on the list of Johannesburg Securities Exchange ever since its first establishment. The company’s divisions mainly focus on three aspects: Earthworks, Civil Engineering and Roads, and Building Construction. Since 2009, WBHO has been receiving awards for the best construction company along with several other recognitions including being listed on Top 100 Companies. Major projects that have involved WBHO include ORTI Airport Terminal Building, Ntimbale Dam, Berg River Dam, Gauteng Freeway, Kusile Power Station, Mall of the North, King Shaka Airport, as well as the construction of Moses Mabhida Stadium, which was used during the FIFA 2010 World Cup. Their works also reach outside South Africa, with some projects occurring in the Middle East and some islands in Indian Ocean. WBHO’s history began when Brian Holmes and John Wilson together formed Wilson-Holmes (Pty) Ltd in 1970. In 1983, following a number of mergers, the company was renamed into Wilson Bayly Holmes (Pty) Limited. It was not until 1994 that the current name was used henceforth. Offices of WBHO are established in strategic locations such as Port Elizabeth, Durban, Cape Town, and Johannesburg. The company has one Australia-based subsidiary named Probuild Constructions, headquartered in Melbourne.

Each program has distinct form that needs to be filled out properly otherwise application will not be eligible for further consideration.

There are minimum criteria for each program that every applicant must meet for consideration: 1) One needs to hold South African citizenship, 2) One must be 60% average/above, 3) One must be a full-time student, and 4) One must study toward qualifications of BEng, BSc, ND, or BTech in at least one of the following areas: Building Science, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or Civil Engineering. Shortlisting and selection are done based on what the company needs both currently and in the future. Programs are open for students of any year and WBHO will be the one determining into what learning institution a participant will attend. In-service Training is a program that offers no employment benefits to participants. It also comes without any expectation of employment that is permanent after the program completes. Salary range depends on a participant’s current field and year of study. WBHO Career Learnership in Vacation Work program are specified to requirements set by the company. Other aspects of this program are similar to that of In-service Training but this one is only available for months such as June, July, November, December, or January.
